54th Annual Hiawatha Invitational Nordic Ski Races

January 9-10, 2010

The Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club welcomes all competitors and coaches to this event. Competitive events will be offered for all age groups on both days from Jackrabbits to Masters racers.

This event is a superb opportunity for Jackrabbit, Junior, Elite and Recreational competitors and is the first event in the Northern Ontario Distirct Race Series.

  • Classic (timed interval start): January 9 - 1st racer starts at 10:00am
  • Freestyle (mass start): January 10 - Starts at 09:00am

Location

The race will be held at Hiawatha Highlands, located at the corner of 5th Line and Landslide Road in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Map

Registration

Register on-line at www.zone4.ca. On-line registration will be available until Saturday, January 2 ending at 12:00 p.m.

Entry Fees
$15.00 per event Mini-Midget to Masters
$10.00 per event Para Nordic, Jackrabbit and Special Olympics

Coaches Meeting

The coaches meeting will be held in the Kin Centre starting at 7:00 p.m.

Accommodations

Accommodations are availavble at the Water Tower Inn.

Awards

All awards will be presented at the race site following the conclusion of the last event. Award of the Hiawatha Cup will go to the Highest Team Aggregate Club.

Individual medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in all events and age classes.
Merchandise prize tables for winners and random draw prizes will be offered.

Hospitality

Light snacks, lunches and hot/cold refreshments will be available for sale at the race site both days of the competition.

Race Facilities

The Soo Finnish Nordic clubhouse and the Kinsmen Centre will be available both days. Indoor washroom and limited indoor waxing facilities will be provided. Outdoor/tent waxing areas will also be available. Electrical power will be available both indoors and out. Our Pisten Bully groomer with power tiller and tracksetter will prepare the race course. Final competition track set by Snowmobile and groomer.

A total of 40 km of trails are available. 2km of lit trail for evening practice are open to competitors and coaches. Races will take place on the Crystal Creek Trails.

Medical and Emergency Services

The event will be staffed by members of the Canadian Ski Patrol.
The site is within a 15 minute drive of a fully-equipped hospital.

Border Crossing

U.S. visitors should be aware that passports are required in order to re-enter the United States.
