TAKE A HIKE
OCTOBER 9, 2003 AT FINN HILL
The Sault Trails Action Committee (STAC) invites everyone to take a hike on a brand new trail recently completed by the Voyageur Trail Association (VTA) in conjunction with the City of Sault Ste. Marie. The new trail runs parallel to Black Road between McNabb Street and the Northern Avenue extension. The official opening and inaugural hike is on Thursday, October 9th beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the bottom of Finn Hill. (The parking lot at the bottom of Finn Hill will be open.)
The City is committed to implementing its Trails Master Plan. The Finn Hill Trail is an integral part of the overall strategy for establishing a network that will link all parts of the City. Completing this task is a significant challenge for the City and its residents. The economic and health benefits derived from a completed trail system will be significant.
Mike Landmark, President, of the VTA says, "The VTA is glad to have taken a lead role in establishing this trail with support from the City. It is gratifying to see the City's Trails Master Plan becoming a reality."
Jim Miller, Chair of STAC says, "We need to develop a culture of walking and hiking in Sault Ste. Marie. Our community is ideally suited to this and will improve with time. The Finn Hill hike is a chance to explore some of the more natural places in our community, to meet people who like to walk and to develop a healthier life style. Please share this evening with us.”
Anyone interested in participating should dress appropriately with sturdy walking shoes, bring water and expect a 1-½ hour hike in a forested setting.
Everyone participating will be asked to sign an Assumption of Risk Agreement, so parents should accompany their underage children on the excursion.
STAC is a volunteer, citizen's group dedicated to the implementation of the Sault Ste. Marie Master Trails Plan. For more information on STAC call 254-7494.
