Ontario Cup #1 The Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club's race team recently competed in the Ontario Cup #1 races hosted by the Lappe Nordic Ski Club in Thunder Bay. Results The SFNSC senior race headed off to Thunder Bay Friday, December 18 to compete at the first of four Ontario Cup races. As this event was the only qualifier for the Ontario Winter Games (OWG) to be held in Huntsville on Jan. 16/17, teams from all over Ontario were present. Conditions at the Lappe Nordic centre were extremely challenging. While the Thunder Bay area had received plenty of cold weather, there was very little snow. Organizers were forced to truck snow from other areas and to even pick up snow from the back door of hockey rinks. The fragile nature of the course meant that our athletes could not preview the course before their race. Despite these challenges all our team were selected to compete at the OWG.
