Kates & Dunne on National Team
as reported by Peter Ruicci of the Sault Star on April 19, 1999Adam Kates and Brady Dunne have been named to the Canadian Junior National Cross Country Ski Team. The team, which features four males and four females, is based in Canmore, Alberta.
The talented duo has also been selected to train at the National Team Development Centre in Thunder Bay. To take advantage of that opportunity, both plan to attend Lakehead University in the fall.
The announcement climaxes a brilliant year for both racers who finished 1-2, with Kates edging Dunne by a single point, at the Canadian Junior National Cross Country Ski Championships in March. The pair also represented Ontario at the Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Adam Kates won a gold medal in relays in that competition while Brady Dunne, who won the Ontario title a month ago, had the province's only gold medal at nationals.
Both Dunne and Kates say their short term goal is to qualify for the World Junior Championships next January in Slovakia. Their ong term goals is to make Senior National Team, qualify for the World Championships and eventually become Olympians.
