Thunder Bay
January 22-23, 2011

Sault Ste. Marie was well represented in Region 9, comprising 6 of 7 skiers.  Elliot Lake contributed one skier in a region extending from Sault Ste. Marie to Parry Sound inclusive.  The local skiers train at Hiawatha Highlands, supported by Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club.

It was very cold but sunny on the two days of racing.  On Friday it was -32C in the morning and racers had to wait until it had warmed to -25C.   Saturday was slightly warmer at -23 to begin the competition.

The nordic races were hosted by Kamview Nordic in Thunder Bay.   The course was groomed expertly by Peter Crooks who groomed at the 2010 Winter Olympics .The waxing for the racers was done by Robin Crowley who waxes for the Thunder Bay Race team.
